Subject: Allow Barista Christina Rosevear to Give Birth in Peace
Dear Ms. Marinas,
Please show some basic human compassion for Starbucks barista Christina Rosevear in these final days of her difficult pregnancy. As you know, Ms. Rosevear has been on pregnancy disability leave from Starbucks on doctor's orders. Nonetheless, in an e-mail to Christina dated August 23, 2007, you wrote:
"Please let me know immediately if you intend to return to work on September 3, 2007. If not, no additional time off will be provided, and Starbucks will separate you from employment."
Christina is due to give birth on September 19th, just 16 days after the mandatory start date you indicated to her. She could give birth any day now and her doctor still has not cleared her to work.
Instead of resting and preparing to give birth, Christina is faced with both being fired and losing her health benefits this coming Monday.
Christina informed you that while she is not ready to come back to work, she will come back on Monday against doctor's orders to avoid termination and loss of health benefits.
Are you really going to force Christina to jeopardize her pregnancy?
Please do not do the unthinkable. Allow Christina the rest and peace she needs to give birth to a healthy child.
