starbucks hiring policy in canada

Submitted by celana on Wed, 02/01/2006 - 4:36am.

I have just moved to canada from the uk and have given out applications to 7 starbucks in the city within the last week. I have heard nothing back , now I could understand if I was genuinley unemployable, had a very weird dress sence or a dangerous criminal past etc.... but back home I had a good retail management type job and have good experience and work record. I have also worked as a barista in starbucks uk 6 years ago. So to not even get a phonecall seems weird.

My friend thinks that I am overqualified ,that they dont take me seriously as they think i wouldnt want to stay. But I was wondering if any canadian employees could tell me of any company rules or policies that there are reguarding employing people on working visas, what the reasons might otherwize be ?

many thanks

I don't know how Canada is, but you should try calling them back. Anyways, it took me like 2 weeks I think to hear back from Starbucks.

It took me two phone calls and seventeen applications throughout my district to get my first interview. Then, it took three reminded calls that I needed to set up a date for my second interview, to only find out that everything about me had been "misplaced". So, I filled out yet another application, took it in (while I was sick, and in my PJs) and was interviewed and hired right on the spot, and have now been at work for three months. They are kinda loony... so do give them a call, they like that :)

Thank you both for the replies.
17 applications eh?
i actually got a call today from a place that didnt have a set 'barista' position advertized just 2 hrs after i dropped an application in...but places from a week ago....nothing.hmmmmmmm
So yeah , hopefully i wont get to the going in my pj's stage. lol
I cant find any info about what the T.O. area pay is. I dont like when companies dont promote what the pay is....makes me suspicious. Starbucks seems to have an ok record from what i hear , so im not too worried if no one knows.
thanks

I recently got hired at a starbucks in Barrie, Ontario. They actually called me back 1 hour after i left my application and resume in. I had experience in retail and food service before and they told me that they were desperate for employees because 7 people would be leaving in august to go to college. Maybe they havent called you back because that already have enough people at all locations.

Try waiting for a hiring fair. I'd applied in the past and never heard back from them, even when they had a sign up saying they needed people. At the hiring fair I hired on the spot after 2 interviews. They didn't check my references and just quickly read my application and resume. If you have experience answering their questions will be easy and you'll likely be hired. Good luck!
