Starbucks Union

IWW Starbucks Workers Union

Starbucks "Union"?

Submitted by Mr_Man on Fri, 05/05/2006 - 1:27pm.

Is this really just the IWW masquerading as a "Starbucks Union" Who gets the monthly union "dues"? The IWW?

Your site acts as if their is actually a Starbucks Union with members yet there is not a single unionized Starbucks store in America. Aren't there labor laws about misleading practices such as masquerading as a union that does not exist and has no members?

once again, this is called "Open Shop Unionism". do you understand what "Open Shop Unionism" is? let me explain. this is when starbucks employees have the right to join the Union if they want, and also have the right to Not join the Union. There are union members and union supporters inside starbucks in several major cities. I am one such person.

The deplorable state of US labor law and the relentless (and might I add illegal) union-busting campaign waged by the company against it's workers might have something to do with the fact that there are as of yet no recognized union shops.

As for "who gets the monthly union dues" ($6): The members of the union collectively and democratically allocate them. So who gets the dues? The very same folks who pay them.

The IWW is not a bloated union bureaucracy with delegates getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars - the IWW has almost no paid members!!! It is a wholy democractic organization, and one of the most transparent ones out there, to boot. Monthly dues are reported at every meeting, and then members vote on how to allocate them: towards things like photocopying, bringing in speakers, holding workshops, and making posters. It is ridiculous to assert that the IWW is greedily raking in monthly dues for some nefarious purpose. Dues go towards one thing and one thing only: the cause of bringing a just workplace to every worker.

Holy Shit Unionsuckcock! You average 20 hours a week at $7.25 an hour! That's $145 a week before taxes (and your cup fund donation)! What do you do with all that money? That's an extraordinary budget you're working with, no wonder you're sooooo happy. I'm still trying to comprehend what you meant by "starting at $7.25 an hour alot less than I would have to work at any other food chain for $6.20 an hour.."? grammarsuckcock.

I wouldn't brag about making that kind of cash. You should be getting food stamps too!

Can you even afford to put air in your bicycle tires?

You lads should ignore the corporate lackeys that make those posts . . . I doubt that they are even working in the shops. focus on discussing on how to better get organised and fight back
