Hey everyone,

i work at sbux for almost 3 yrs now. i have mixed views about the company but i now know that it might be possible that if we have a union to fight for better wages then we might be able to hire and keep some really good people. i have see people come and go for variety of reasons but one of the most important reason is that the pay doesn't keep up with the inflation and cost of living.

sure, some people are lucky enough to work part-time just for some fun money, but what about those that needs to take on a second job to make a decent living for themselves or their families?

it is true that sbux offers stock options, but what good does it do if you don't make enough to contribute to it.

our jobs is not a easy job but we still deserve a decent living wages.

p.s the raise we get when we get our review does mean anything if you compare to cost of living adjustments.

Agreed. Real wages, adjusted for inflation, are lower now that in 1970. There are an endless number of reasons to join a union- but the fact that we don't make enough to live, let alone enjoy life, is probably the most obvious. If we manage to unite enough workers in a militant union, we will be able to raise wages, gain vacation time, and begin beating back the neoliberal reaction. How exactly this will lead to abolishing exploitation entirely- this remains to be figured out. But first things first- I want enough money to have a life outside of work.
